Here it is, the elusive perfect laminate. Vacuum laminated with epoxy in one go, outer layer, distance material and inner layere.

Interim production report. Hull #1 is well underway, Hull #2 is now out of the mold. Preparations for painting hull #1 metallic black have also commenced.

We have been working hard to get hull #1 under way towards our May 1st launch. The main bulkheads are in, as are the engine bed, saloon bunk bottoms, forward heads module and a few of the partial bulkheads midships. So far, so good. Epoxy is great stuff to work with! Hull #2 was released from the mold last week and was trucked to our assembly facility through gale force winds and a fierce snowstorm. Thus, this was trial not by fire, but by snow. We are pleased to find that the laminate is 100 per cent perfect. The hull actually looks so good with just clear epoxy that we even considered not painting her at all… However, to prepare for painting hull #1 metallic black we have done lots of research and also done some tests on similar sized older boats. We have used metallic polyurethane colors with two layers of varnish on top. The results are very promising and we will use this method to paint hull #1 in early February. I also notice that I haven’t discussed the weather even once during my blogs so far, so here goes. We have had a really temperate winter, and it looks like the Baltic might not freeze at all this winter, so the last obstacle for a timely launch seems to be out of our way.
FG43 is out now! The launch party was held on May 1st, 2008. This site is dedicated to following the design- and building process of the performance yacht. We continue to update this site until the opening of FG43 section on Finngulf site.
