Finngulf 43 Deck plug ready

Anders Kurten
CEO
We have been working ridiculously hard over the past two weeks to finalize the interior design for boats number 1, 2 & 3. Meanwhile the boys at ScanMould have had the CNC milling machine plugging away at the deck plug (no pun intended). In the image you can see the deck plug after it is finished from the milling machine. The picture also shows the way the plug is built. First, a platform of plywood is built, upon which the approximate surface form is layered out of Styrofoam. The Styrofoam is then milled to rough shape with an offset of -10 millimetres. After this, an epoxy putty is spread out on the surface to a thickness of roughly 12 millimetres. The final shape is then milled, the result of which you see in the images.

The only thing left is to surface coat it with epoxy putty and sand through the grits for a perfect result. We estimate that the labour saved compared to building the plug manually is roughly 90%. This saves significant amounts of calendar time, as well as forces the design department to really focus on creating a finished result, as the previous way of thinking: “we can fix it when we build the actual plug” is no longer valid. On another upbeat note, it is with pleasure that I realize now, being half way through the project, we are still on schedule and track. So far so good, still anxiously and eagerly awaiting May 1st and the splash party…
FG43 is out now! The launch party was held on May 1st, 2008. This site is dedicated to following the design- and building process of the performance yacht. We continue to update this site until the opening of FG43 section on Finngulf site.
